La Barge hudsonienne

Kilométrage annuel? 20 000 à 30 000 km de vol, carboneutre! Voilà la distance parcourue par la Barge hudsonienne lors de sa migration annuelle, aller-retour, entre l’Arctique et la pointe sud des Amériques.

Après avoir réalisée avec une bande dessinée sur le Bécasseau maubèche, voici une nouvelle BD que j’ai réalisée en 2021-2022 avec Nature Canada sur les péripéties migratoires de la barge. On y découvre ses lieux de nidification, son alimentation, les menaces rencontrées sur son parcours migratoire et aussi les initiatives visant sa conservation.

The delegates from 196 countries finally agreed in December 2022 in Montreal on the new Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. It includes four goals and 23 targets, as the 30% of protected world’s land and water areas by 2030.

Offsetting as an excuse for biodiversity loss

As seen in the two first comics, one of the biggest challenge of the last decades have been to balance conservation and development. It is why some «offsetting» systems have been used to compensate destruction of natural habitat. Does it work? What will say COP15 about it?

Crise climatique et biodiversité

Ces jours-ci, à la COP15 sur la biodiversité, on peut entendre comment l’autre COP, celle sur es changements climatiques, mise sur la biodiversité pour freiner et amortir les effets des bouleversements du climat. Toutefois, ces bouleversements affectent aussi la biodiversité.

C’est le cas de certains poissons dans l’arctique canadien. Je vous présente ici une courte bande dessinée que j’ai réalisé pour l’Association universitaire canadienne d’études nordiques (AUCEN ou ACUNS en anglais). Elle porte sur les travaux de Spencer Weinstein, une doctorante en écologique aquatique qui collabore avec les pêcheurs inuits de la communauté de Kugluktuk au Nunavut.

What’s happening to biodiversity?

I’m working for months on a graphic reportage about biodiversity conservation in the province of Québec, a project conducted with Journalisme9. Since COP15, UN conference on biological diversity, will be held in Montreal, 7-19 Dec 2022, I worked on short comics about biodiversity and environmental regulations of the last 50 years. I will also attend the COP15 for my documentary, the book coming in 2023.

Un petit oiseau, mais un grand voyageur

Voici un bande dessinée que j’ai réalisée en 2017 pour Nature Canada et le Gouvernement régional cri sur le Bécasseau maubèche, une espèce d’oiseau migrateur. Ce petit oiseau niche au nord du Québec et migre par la baie James (territoire cri Eeyou Istchee) jusqu’en Patagonie! Voici la version anglaise, en attendant les diverses traductions, dont une traduction française.
